| Name: | Aravis Tarkheena |
|---|---|
| Birthdate: | 1982 |
No roots to keep her strong
She's shed all pretenses
That someday she'll belong
Some folks call her a runaway
A failure in the race
But she knows where her ticket takes her
She will find her place in the sun
The fuss she made about choosing the dresses nearly drove Aravis mad. She remembered now that Lasaraleen had always been like that, interested in clothes and parties and gossip. Aravis had always been more interested in bows and arrows and horses and dogs and swimming. You will guess they each thought the other silly.
--Aravis in Tashbaan
"Good-bye," said Aravis, "and thank you. I'm sorry if I've been a pig. But think what I'm flying from!"
"Oh Aravis darling," said Larasaleen. "Won't you change your mind? Now that you've seen what a very great man Ahoshta is!"
"Great man!" said Aravis. "A hideous groveling slave who flatters when he's kicked but treasures it all up and hopes to get his own back by egging on that horrible Tisroc to plot his son's death. Faugh! I'd sooner marry my father's scullion than a creature like that."
"Oh Aravis, Aravis! How can you say such dreadful things; and about the Tisroc (may he live forever) too. It must be right if he's going to do it!"
"Good-bye," said Aravis, "and I thought your dresses lovely. And I think your house is lovely too. I'm sure you'll have a lovely life--though it wouldn't suit me. Close the door softly behind me."
--Across the Desert
Physically, Aravis is not overly remarkable--pretty but not striking, petite, black hair and dark skin typical of the southern nation of Calormen--except for the way she carries herself; that is a visibly noble thing, with her chin high, her shoulders back and her eyes shining with pride (or worse if you've ticked her off). At fourteen years of age, she is slim but strong and athletic and typically dresses fashionably when she's not wearing her brother's armor or another disguise.
Aravis has been bound since her arrival in the Bar.
Aravis Tarkheena is from The Chronicles of Narnia, book
